The Land.
Garden · Grounds · Lake · Mountains
The landscape that nourishes us: twelve wild tropical acres, Wewela Lake and the ancient Nuwara Gala range beyond.
The landscape that shapes us
Older than memory.
The Nuwara Gala Mountain Range and surrounding woodlands belong to one of South Asia’s oldest geological landscapes.
Season after season, drought after monsoon, this ground has continued to change. Peacock Hill sits within it rather than apart from it.
The house is surrounded by twelve acres of tropical wild garden with direct access to Wewela Lake. Resident gardeners Ananda and Thilake tend the estate without pesticides or synthetic fertiliser, and the use of plastics is discouraged.
Village folklore
Wewela Lake is said to have supplied water to the ancient Sigiriya Rock Fortress.

Look outward
Lake below. Ancient rock beyond.
From the house, the view slips between tree canopy, water, mountain ridges and the unmistakable silhouette of Sigiriya, a landscape that changes character with the hour.
Do come & stay awhile.
